Improve your Data Strategy: 3 Ways to Capitalize on Data

  Greg LaBrie     Mar 18, 2021

data-strategy-hpe-intelligent-data-platformFor today’s enterprises, data is the lifeblood of the business. However, despite what many CIO’s and enterprise leaders may think, many businesses lack a comprehensive data strategy that allows them to fully capitalize on their data, let alone carry them into the future.

As detailed by IDG in a recent report, having such a strategy and making full use of data is a large part of what sets enterprises apart and gets them ahead of the competition.

In the first article of this two-part series, we detailed the challenges that enterprises face when it comes to data, as well as the Data Innovator Scale developed by IDG. In this second article we will discuss the top three moves businesses can make to better capitalize on data, and how HPE can help get them started.

1. Utilize an AIOps-driven platform

In the course of their study, IDG found that enterprises who utilized AIOps to “resolve issues and drive intelligent insights” were able to focus more on IT initiatives that deliver more value, such as capitalizing on data.

IDG’s research found that enterprises identified as ‘advanced innovators’ on IDG’s Data Innovation Scale did the following:

  • Prioritized AIOps investments
  • Utilized a data platform driven by AIOps
  • Had a more positive view of AIOps, with a belief that it helps achieve business outcomes

In addition to promoting innovation, an AIOps-driven data platform offers a number of other data strategy benefits, including improving the protection, consistency, and scaling of data. These challenges are often identified by enterprises early in their journey to capitalize on data.

2. Embrace the cloud

Almost every enterprise has begun utilizing the cloud to some degree, but those that truly embrace this technology for all that it can offer are often higher up on IDG’s Data Innovator Scale than those that don’t.

As specified in IDG’s report, enterprises must accept a ‘cloud everywhere’ mentality and focus on “reducing complexity with an intelligent data strategy that supports a hybrid infrastructure across multiple clouds and on-premises data centers.”

By doing so, enterprises can ensure access to data is always-on, always fast, and constantly accessible and usable across environments.

IDG identified the following technologies as essential components of intelligent data platform solutions:

  • HCI and Disaggregated HCI (dHCI)
  • Containers
  • As-a-Service
  • Enterprise cloud data services

3. Put your data to work

As written in IDG’s report, enterprises must “put data to work” to be competitive in today’s environment. Regardless of the application or industry, the value of every piece of data must be found and applied practically to improve the business and promote growth throughout.

As shared in the report, those enterprises identified as advanced innovators on IDG’s scale have focused on unlocking the value and agility of their data by doing the following as part of their data strategy:

  • Seeking data-driven insights to fuel business growth
  • Working to improve experiences for customers and users
  • Proactively using data to accelerate innovation

By focusing on utilizing and leveraging data across its entire lifetime, its value can be multiplied many times over what enterprises may initially anticipate.

Create an intelligent data strategy with the HPE solutions you know

Overall, the steps to advance along the IDG Data Innovator Scale and improve your data strategy are fairly simple in concept: promote innovation and automation, prioritize flexible and scalable infrastructure and data solutions, adopt ‘cloud everywhere,’ and put data to work wherever possible.

That said, the practical application of these steps is easier said than done. Thankfully, HPE and its Intelligent Data Platform can help.

Modern IT environments need a modern solution to handle the hybrid complexity and rapid growth of data. That’s where HPE comes in. You can leverage the HPE platform using the tools you already know and rely on, and leverage HPE Infosight to start gleaning performance analytics across your entire IT environment.

Built to eliminate disruptions and help enterprises unlock hidden insights in their data, HPE’s Intelligent Data Platform utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) and enables the infrastructure to learn, adapt, and react. In doing so, HPE can help businesses transform their services, revenue streams, and business models.”
