3 Ways AI Enabled Business Transformation for Dynatrace

  Shane Garrett     Nov 18, 2020

ai-automation-dynatrace-business-transformationDynatrace is a software intelligence platform that utilizes a highly matured AI engine to monitor and optimize the critical facets of the day-to-day operations of your IT enterprise. This includes application performance and development, cloud infrastructure monitoring and digital experience management. Its overall mission is straightforward and simple:

  • Simplify enterprise cloud complexity
  • Accelerate digital transformation
  • Eliminate problems or disruptions before they occur
  • Constantly improve the customer experience

There are a lot of companies today that tout how their solutions can help you attain your goals of digital transformation. Dynatrace employees are proud of the fact that they practice what they preach. That’s because their own software has helped digitally transform their own organization, and we’re here to share that story, as well as key takeaways that led them to success.

The Self-actualization Journey of Dynatrace

Before we focus on the technical story outlining the tremendous value that the Dynatrace software intelligence platform can bring to your business, we think it’s best to highlight the developmental journey of Dynatrace itself, which starts with self-actualization. One’s own self-actualization is the realization and fulfillment of one’s talents and potentialities in order to attain one’s highest potential. Dynatrace, as a company and its culture, is committed to this endeavor.

Back in 2014, Dynatrace management assigned 30 of their best and brightest engineers to figure out what application monitoring would look like in the year 2020. In order to do that, they had to first determine what companies would need from their application environments. They quickly realized that the world was going to be quite different in five years (and they were spot on). In fact, very different, which meant that their own company and product solutions needed to be metamorphosized in order to deliver what the future would demand. And so they themselves became customer zero. As a result, they took their own three-tier monolithic style application at the time that was overly reliant on manual intervention and processes and they set out to completely automate it. Their efforts resulted in a complete transformation of their own product line and company through the use of AI and automation. With this experience at hand, they then set out to use their own experience to assist their customers in attaining their highest potential.

These three features of Dynatrace’s AI engine, Davis, helped them transform their own business.

1. Automated Self-healing

Don’t think of Dynatrace as just an application performance or cloud monitoring solution. At its core lies Davis, an AI engine that is the very essence of what Dynatrace is all about. It is involved in every aspect of the platform. Whether your infrastructure involves a traditional on-premises data center or a hybrid cloud, Davis is there, tracing every transaction from end to end through intricate dependency mapping in order to fully understand the involved order of processes that are carried out within your environment every day. The end goal is to monitor potential disruptions and to provide automated self-healing.

A case in point is the remediation process of their own internal software bugs. Years ago, Dynatrace, like any software company, relied on their customers to identify nearly 100% of their bugs in production. Of course it was a different world then. This year, only 6% of bugs are identified by their customer base. Instead, 94% of software bugs are discovered by Davis, and then remediated. This makes their software far more dependable, allowing Davis to ensure that your environment, and your customer experience, is more reliable.

2. Reliability and Responsiveness

In a world in which your operations must achieve an up time of 99.999%, you don’t have time to figure out what the issue at hand is and how to address it. The Davis AI platform has the ability to report what the issue is and provide correct and relevant information to the correct person at the right time. Companies today are utilizing containerized platforms that spin up within seconds in order to execute tasks for only a few minutes before being shut down. These short application windows don’t allow the luxury of conventional troubleshooting. You need answers about your environment at hand, and that is what Davis gives you. Time is even more essential in the new normal of today in which employees now work from remote workspaces scattered across the country. This greater complexity furthers the need for proactive measures that can identify and heal potential disruptions to your complex mesh of talent and resources. One thing that the COVID crisis has taught us is that those companies that take a proactive approach to overcome challenges are the most likely to not only succeed, but thrive.

3. Complete Visibility

In an era in which companies are quick to deploy new applications to take advantage of newly discovered opportunities and overcome zero-day challenges, the need for intelligence-based application and process monitoring is critical to a company’s survival. Companies are striving to implement observability solutions at an accelerated pace in order to gain complete visibility into their complete operations. But application monitoring no longer means requiring staff to monitor dashboards all day. In order to maximize the value of their solution for their customers, Dynatrace software engineers designed its platform with simplicity in mind. This includes things such as creating an out-of-the box experience so customers can hit the ground running and providing multiple communicative channels to converse with Davis, including voice and chat.

The Dynatrace way... Continuously Deliver Innovation

Dynatrace created its software intelligence platform to not only provide a proactive self-healing solution for its customers, but for itself as well. Of course, the self-actualization journey for Dynatrace has barely begun. Dynatrace engineers along with Davis are continuing to improve the platform through thousands of incremental enhancements that continually add more potential and value. This will help ensure that Dynatrace remains ahead of the curve five, ten or even fifty years from now, so that your company can remain on top of its game as well.
